This website is an evolving work-in-progress originally associated with a major collaborative research project (Global Survey and Inventory of Solifugae) funded by the Biodiversity Surveys and Inventories program of the U.S. National Science Foundation (Grants 0640219 and 0640245), and currently associated with research proposed under the U.S. National Science Foundation Advancing Revisionary Taxonomy and Systematics (ARTS) program (Proposal Number 1733117). The site provides information about the biology, taxonomy, and distribution of arachnids contained in the order Solifugae. The site also includes an extensive bibliography, with links to literature resources and, in some cases, to copies of hard-to-find publications. Past and present content contributors to this site include Warren Savary (webmaster), Alexander Gromov, Kristie Reddick, Bob Wharton, Lorenzo Prendini, Jason Dunlop, Paula Cushing, and Jack Brookhart, among others. Photographers and artists are credited in the captions of the individual photographs and illustrations that appear within the site.

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AVAILABLE:
 
Our research team invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar as part of an NSF-funded project on camel spider (Arachnida, Solifugae) systematics and biogeography. The study begins summer 2018 and is renewable for up to three years. Applicants with experience or interest in genomic approaches are especially encouraged to apply, as are individuals whose research goals relate to arachnology, biogeography, and desert biology. The successful candidate will be based out of Eastern Connecticut State University but will be part of a larger collaboration with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and the University of Colorado, Denver. As a senior member of this team, the postdoc will work with PIs to coordinate and mentor graduate students and undergraduates during field and laboratory activities, including work with RADseq and ultra-conserved elements (UCEs). The position includes summer travel in remote desert environments in the United States and Mexico, and travel to scientific conferences. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to teach and mentor undergraduates in a liberal arts setting.
